HI Guys, here are a few shots from a project I'm finishing up. I saw it featured in Dezeen and really wanted to recreate it in 3D. The procedural bricks were a bit time consuming but I think they turned out ok Rendered with corona A6 3000x3000 (approx) for 450frames about 4 hours each (dual Xeon) Feel free to ask any questions. C & C welcome. I'll be posting more from the set as I finish them.
-
wow! we probably wont need to ask you to show us the reference images at this point...coz its probably the same. lol. but pls post them either way for comparison sake. can you give insight to lighting setup and leaf material?
-
not bad. But bump ( - wrong.
-
Very nice!
Show your greenery and leaf material setup please! Beautiful!
-
Hi guys, thanks for the feedback, its all welcome :)
Rozumny and Yagi - My leaf materials are pretty simple. Diffuse and Translucency with glossiness and bump maps also. I have included an image showing the basic setup (bump was cropped off but it is set to .2) I have also included a couple of the reference images I started with. All the plants in this scene are built with vairations of this set up (maps/translucency/glossiness values change for each plant.
Polymax, thanks for the reply. Was there a specific material you are referring to?

It's fantastic!
How long did you take to make the whole thing?
-
Hi gerbilho, Most of it was pretty simple to build (perhaps a day or two) but I went through lots of testing for the types of plants I wanted over the course of a week or so. The landscaping was the hard part for sure. The rendering and post work were done over a weekend (about 4 hours rendering time per image @ 450 frames)

congratulations, good job
-
Thanks Delkin :)
-
Very good job. I like so much the atmosphere.
Very nice for me.
-
Thanks abulimbre.
-
thanks for the screenshot. was the scene lit with only a HDRI? was there any particular change you made in the render settings or was it just default settings all through?
-
Hi Yagi,
The scene is lit with 1 HDRI (24K). I dont change much from default settings. Very simple but I find it works really well.
-
ok.... 24k? u mean resolution? mind telling me where you got such hdri?(if possible free)... most hdri ive used dont get me nice sharp shadows.... maybe they are low hdri. thanks
-
Great shots ,especially the vegetation parts :)

Street fighter style: You win perfect!!

Yagi - I meat to say 12K resolution...which I guess is still pretty high res :). I got it from Vizpeople and I know CG Source offer some high res ones too. Not sure if they offer them for free but I guess its worth a look. Higher res HDRI's definitely give much sharper shadows (but only if the light source is crisp. This is something you could even amend in photoshop I'm guessing too. I think Juraj wrote some really good info about HDRI quality in relation to lighting/reflection quality. His post for the Iceland house is full of great info!
Thanks Adi and Crawlewis:)

How many passes?

Hi Nehale,
I used the same render settings as I did for the day shot (just changing the hdri/exposure/whitepoint)
3000 x 3000px 450 frames (about 4hours)
-
Really nice images. There's a very natural feel to your renders. The foliage looks especially nice.
