Title: Is it not possible to show a .exr HDRI in the viewport?
Post by: Bondra on 2025-08-05, 15:08:49
Isn't it possible to show a .exr background in the viewport? It just turns gray. It renders fine though. I tested with a .hdr file and that works fine and shows up correctly in the viewport.

EXR should show in the viewports just fine. Make sure that your coordinates are set to either screen or spherical. Also try to chose some another EXR file just to see if there's something wrong with you current one. I had some troublesome EXR in the past, but it was issue with the specific file and not with the format itself.

Thanks! Tried another one and it actually worked strange...

So the preview thumbnail for the material (HDRI map) and the interactive render show the same output meanwhile the viewport background wont change when I playing around with the Output amount for the bitmap. Any ideas why?

Could be Max's limitation. I think Corona does not have much control over what's happening in the viewports. Can't say for sure as i have no much experience with environment display in the viewport, usually i turn it off right away, cause i find it quite distracting :]
