Chaos Corona for 3ds Max => [Max] I need help! => Topic started by: notoriousbug on 2025-07-29, 17:49:56

Hi everyone, I'm asking for help with a problem.
I don't know if I'm doing something wrong or if the problem isn't my fault.
Activating and deactivating the environment override changes the lighting and reflections.

But I don't think this should happen since the HDR in the environment hasn't been changed.
Besides, I don't understand why, even though I've deactivated exposure, tone mapping, and LUT in the Corona Tonemap, the background image is modified compared to the original.
thnks in advance

On the Tonemap Control, it should come after the CoronaSelect is what I am thinking, to avoid the image being changed. Right now the bitmap doesn't get changed by tone mapping, but the CoronaSelect will :)

On the change in look, I think this is due to the Auto Adjustment being enabled - your background has changed, so the exposure and white balance changes, making the objects look different due to tone mapping even though the reflections etc. are the same. Try turning off Auto Adjustment and see if then the objects look the same. I think this is amplified because the direct visibility is a JPG with only SDR range, and the environment an HDRI, and an HDRI can have brightness way above what a JPG SDR image can have, thus making the Auto Adjustment make some pretty big changes to Exposure and White Balance.

Thanks Tom!! Always very quick and kind!!!
I changed it as you said.
But then I think the problem was with the AUTO ADJUSTMENT feature. I foolishly left it enabled. Once I disabled it, everything went back to normal.

Tom, could you perhaps tell me why I have this difference in colors? Especially in blue

It could be multiple things, but:
- Photoshop can handle color profiles while 3dsMax/Corona cannot. So if this photo has an embedded color profile, it will display differently in Photoshop and in the VFB.
- It could be 3ds Max applying its ACES transforms. If you don't like it, you can go to the Max color management settings and switch to the legacy gamma 2.2 workflow.
