Title: Tones on my materials are 'washed out' - can someone help me?!
Post by: wardy_mk on 2025-06-10, 14:15:38
Hello
I do retail displays. My clients are getting more and more fussy. A recent issue I've come across is the fine tones (especially skin) in some of my visuals is losing colour and getting bleached out. I've tried a few things and I'm hoping someone who knows more about materials (I didn't actually 'learn' Corona - I just jumped right in) can help? If I darken the scene to stop the bleaching it makes all my white things go grey, and it still loses some of the saturation in the image. I've attached an actual 3D file and a render next to the supplied artwork so you can see the difference I'm getting. Any advice welcomed!

PS - This promotion is old so there's no NDA issues here.
PPS - You will need to load in a HDRI as mine is too big. It's called "Underground Studio.hdr" in case anyone else has it.. I can send it to someone if needed.

Here are some ideas:
1) Make sure you have the ACES OT tone mapping operator disabled in the Corona VFB > Post tab
2) If the above doesn't help, go to your Project > Color Management and switch to the sRGB workflow
3) When using the sRGB workflow and having the ACES OT operator disabled, you can try enabling the operator back and see if you "like" the appearance of your render more
