Title: About exporting masks
Post by: ishi on 2025-05-18, 07:42:38
I'm having trouble with the difference in tone levels between the rendered result and the mask after saving.

I know it's just a basic setting, but which settings should I review to make it display correctly?

Hi,

This is another limitation/way of things 3ds Max does stuff, in regards to OCIO workflow - it applies view transform to masks too.
Try saving out the mask without any transformation (no automatic conversion) - does it give expected results?

Thank you.
If I save it with no conversion, the mask will work!
The color of the base image will change, so should I save it separately?

Yes, saving separately is the safe way to go.

Of course you can change to Gamma workflow and this will not be a problem.

I see. I understand. Thank you!
I think I'll switch back to the gamma workflow once this project is finished.

This was already reported. Unfortunately, we cannot fix this unless we implement our own file saving, which would be a big thing.

The workaround is to use the "data image" or "raw" option when saving the mask or saving in the exr format. See: https://forum.corona-renderer.com/index.php?topic=44480.msg232556#msg232556
