Title: C4D's VFB responsiveness
Post by: John_Do on 2025-03-20, 11:30:43
Hi,

I've always felt that the Max version is a bit snappier than the C4D one, but it's something that is a bit hard to show.
I've just noticed that it's clearly visible in the stats panel with the VFB refresh time value, on a simple lookdev scene Max is almost 4 times faster than C4D, consistently :

C4D refresh times are between 22 and 30 ms, Max's between 2 (!) and 8ms.

Why is that?  And is it something the devs can adress ?

Thanks !

I may be wrong, but I think your IR subsampling is set to 3 in the case of 3ds Max and 2 in the case of C4D.
In Max you can find this option in Render Setup > System > System settings
In C4D - Corona > Preferences

Also: in C4D you are rendering to 1280x720px and in Max 800x450.

Thanks for the feedback Maru.

I've checked on both sides and subsamping is set to 3 in both softwares, but you're right I forgot to lock the resolution in Max.
It doesn't change the result though, Max remains faster and smoother when orbiting and panning ( it doesn't hang like in C4D ) :

It looks like C4D's VFB is redrawing the UI (or something else that causes the flickering of the render buttons) and more stats are updated than in Max. Could this be a reason?

Hello guys,

Thanks for bringing this to our attention.
It'll be investigated.
Kind regards.

I also found this problem, especially when using another view to operate, because the default camera is used, so it is very slow and a new camera needs to be created.
