Title: Image is looking nice in vfb but not in PS.
Post by: vermu on 2024-09-27, 17:24:52
Hi,

I have tweaked my image in vfb so it's looking nice. When I take it to PS I loose contrast and saturation. Image looks a bit washed out. I am not sure if something has happened in my setup. How could I get the image to look same as in vfb?

I also noticed that my colors are not the same as in vfb. When I adjust greens to be perfect in vfb they are not looking the same in PS.

Is it so that adobe RGB is the closest to the vfb? I normally use that but now it was changed.

In Photoshop select Edit > Color Settings > Color Management Policies:
Preserve Embedded Profiles

Drag in your render it should look the same as the frame buffer. No need to change or apply a color profile.

I have preserve embedded profiles on. But still I get the same result with adobe RGB as in vfb. sRGB gives wrong colors.

Wide gamut monitor issues perhaps?

What image format are you saving to? EXR, PNG, JPG, etc?

Check you monitor profile is set to sRGB in the windows display settings.
Save to EXR from the VFB then load into PS.
Assign your sRGB profile and when saving to whatever format you want ensure you embed the profile in the save dialog.

Id struggled with this for ages and the part i had missed was ensuring my monitor profile was set to sRGB.

If you have a profile coming with your display or it's calibrated and using a profile from the calibration, you probably don't want to go with limited sRGB and the display uses a different profile - in that case the above post ytr_bolanda is the way to go.

I use a TV as my working screen and don't trust the profile it assigned so I switched back to limited sRGB because its a safe bet that everyone that sees the renders on a screen will see them in a similar way.
I guess it depends what youre producing renders for.
