Title: How to NOT affect the background by tone mapping?
Post by: steppes on 2024-07-04, 09:28:24
For Compositings I use backplate photos or sphericals. How can I use the tone control in the VFB for the 3D objects but ignore the environment? i want the background to be ignored.

Thanks.

Check "Ray-Switcher Material (https://support.chaos.com/hc/en-us/articles/12807067824273-Corona-Ray-Switcher-material-and-Ray-Switch-shader-C4D)"

Still though, specific details would fare better...

Did you check Corona Tonemap Control Shader? If I understand you right, this is what you are looking for.
But be aware, it has some limitations.
And, like burnin said, use Ray Switcher Material for your backplate.

I don't think Ray Switcher has anything to do with the VFB tone mapping. You can use Corona Tonemapping Control shader for this - https://docs.chaos.com/display/CRC4D/Corona+Tonemap+Control+Shader
But as lollolo mentioned, it has some limitations. The "safest" option is rendering with a transparent background and replacing it in post.
