Chaos Corona for Cinema 4D => [C4D] I need help! => Topic started by: wardy_mk on 2024-05-08, 11:08:37

hello. on this issue, I have some bell jars. when I place the bell jar over the item the refraction is CRAZY. It looks like the whole thing is full of water or something. I've attached a screenshot and a rudimentary file. Can someone help? You'll have to drop an HRDI into the scene to light it perhaps.... (mine's too big).

Does the glass have thickness? If its just a 1 sided piece of geometry you need to use thin-shell in the material. Or just 'shell' the geometry, whatever the equivalent is in c4d.
-
Or just check "Thin" on your glass shader.
-
It does have about 2mm thickness indeed.
I'll have a look at the shader and see what adjustments need to be made. Thought 'glass' would generally work on anything made from glass!
-
Your Boole needs "create single object" checked, else it will still be seen as two separate objects (making them appear as solid glass, not as one object with a thickness to the glass).
-
Hello. Well, I did think this but I've tried it with a lathe - the the same effect...!
-
Theres nothing wrong with the material - just your modelling technique :)
If dont want to model it with proper thickness. Then use c4d's inbuilt Thicken Generator, which is made specifically for this purpose
-
Surely there's nothing wrong with a lathe?
-
Depends on how it is set up, as to whether it gives the proper "surface, surface, air, surface, surface" in the end result, all as a single object. Would need to see the lathe to know, but if it gave this result sounds like it too was either not creating a single object, or it was not creating an outer, inner, gap, inner, outer surface set up.

Thanks, just clicked that box on the boolean worked!
This wasn't my model by the way, I was adapting it to use Corona materials then had to carry out some amends.
I'll try and remember that in future! Thanks. :)

Most welcome, and happy rendering!
