Hello,
would it be possible to have the new edgemap also work with closed surfaces/volumes, and not only planes ?

Why don't you consider using a round edge map for closed objects? Could you provide a specific use case scenario where an edge map would be more effective?

The Edge map was added specifically to cover the use case the other maps couldn't - coloring the boundaries of non-solid objects.
