Title: [solved] Smoother shadow with HDRI?
Post by: Giovanni Stengel on 2023-07-18, 12:46:04
Dear Experts,
is it possible to make the shadows coming only from an HDRI image smoother? I mean as it was made increasing the sun dimension but without using any Corona Sun (the typical Sun-HDRI linking).
I think the idea could be something like making the HDRI more blurred just for the light source, maintaing the direct visibility, reflection and refraction not blurred.
Thank you!

[Auto-solved]:

I actually did what I wrote and it worked ahah! So blurring one HDRI in filtering option and using it only as light source(environment) and overriding what you need with a not blurry copy of that HDRI.

Instead of blurring you can try to play with the gamma value using a color correction operator (low gamma value= streght shadow, high gamma value = soft shadow).
