Title: Material Editor and Render Settings takes AGES to load when no license found
Post by: HalukOzkul on 2023-06-14, 13:24:13
We have several floating licenses and unfortunately every once in a while, someone doesn't get a license.

If Corona doesn't find a license, the whole Max becomes unusable, just loading the materials in material editor takes ages. I'm talking 10minutes to load 24 material slots. Once Corona realizes the license missing, it should skip all the Corona Materials. Instead, it seems like it checkes for license for every. single. material.

Render settings also takes ages to load. Again, after I get the error saying there is no license, pressing F10 sends another request for license. Maybe just check for a license at the top and leave the poor worker alone after that. We can manually check for a license with a button in Render settings if we can get it to open.

I understand Chaos would prefer we never have missing licenses but this is just absurd. Please, please fix this issue. Rant over, thank you.

I agree. Recently Corona lost its license while I was working on materials and Max seemed to freeze, only minutes later I realized that the material editor would re-render all material previews which it did really slowly. Only then a message appeared that the license was not found. But I'd prefer if the log window came up and Max wouldn't try to mess with the material editor prior.
It took minutes for what could've been seconds in an ideal world.

Hi, which versions of 3ds Max and Corona are you using?
I just tried with Max 2024 and Corona 10 RC3 and could not reproduce this (by signing out of the Chaos License Server). Even after restarting 3ds Max with a license-less Corona, the material editor and other parts of the UI are working smoothly. Perhaps there was some related improvement in V10?

Hi Maru, that might be it. We're using 3ds Max 2023 and Corona 9 Hotfix1.

Should I wait for the release of 10 or install the RC and test it?

Whichever you prefer. :)
