Title: Global volume vs. Sky volume effect
Post by: Farzad on 2023-06-12, 21:56:59
For environment fog/dust simulations,
what's the exact difference between Global volume and Sky volume effect in engine calculations, results and use cases?

The volume effect renders fast and quickly, as it is not a true volumetric material - it won't have any godrays etc. It is best suited for scenes that show a wide area, e.g. landscapes with distant hills.

The global volume material is a full volumetric effect, will show god rays etc. and will therefore be much harder to calculate (slower), and harder to set up as there are more parameters involved to get a particular desired result.

You can see info about the aerial perspective (Volume Effect) in https://blog.corona-renderer.com/corona-renderer-7-for-3ds-max-released/
