Hello,
most of the materials in the material library still use the Corona legacy material. Is there a way to quickly convert them to Physical material?
-
You can use Corona Converter (accessible from Corona Toolbar, or quad menu). There's no guarantee that converted materials will look exactly the same, but it's probably the only automatic solution you have.
-
Ok, thank you. Is there a performance difference between physical and legacy MTL?
-
There might be, but generally it should not be noticeable, and you will get better results.
For example, you can have a legacy mtl with no reflectivity. With physical mtl you always have some reflectivity (unless you use some crazy values like IOR 1, which is not recommended anyway).

I had the same question.
I'm not sue about the scene converter. Would that mean importing all library materials into a scene, applying each one to a unique object, converting the scene, then saving all the converted materials back into a user library?
Surely this is something Chaos can do quickly on the entire library then send it out as a hot fix?

More like: painting your scene objects with the materials from Corona Material Library regardless if they are Legacy or Physical and then running the converter script to convert all Legacy Mtls to Physical Mtls.
We are planning to merge the Corona Material Library into Cosmos for V10, and at that point I would expect all materials to be also converter to Physical Mtl - https://trello.com/b/EfPE4kPx/corona-tentative-road-map-3ds-max
