Hello
Im working on a scene that is quite easy yet client decided do close the curtains at a suny day.
My main light source is the translucent courtain it self, yet It creates awful amount of noise and firlies that just never go off.
My quess is that translucency is not the proper way to aproach courtains like this, yet I noticed something that was quite wierd for me.
Look at the "Render_1"
Mirror object reflects awful a lot of caustics, yet when courtains are taken away it does not produce them at all.
Im curious about this phenomena.
My Light setting is quite simple Corona sky + Large Sun with low power. (Theres a portal in fron of the window).
Note that this are photoshoped images, I managed to get rid of most of the FF, but Im just trying to undstand what im doing wrong.
All hints are welcome

can you show material along with settings for curtains? also, do they have thickness?
-
First, i would revert render settings to default.
Then, make sure your curtain or any other objects in the scene do not have disabled shadow casting. That can break energy conservation and slow down a lot.
Then, try to remove curtain first, and test if scene renders in acceptable time. If it does, try to put curtain back, check material albedo, and make sure there are no fakes, as mentioned above.
If you want light to get through, then you will have to map opacity with some fine fabric pattern, or make the curtain just a little bit refractive with thin material mode enabled.

Does your curtain have thickness?
I'd suggest adding CESSENTIAL_direct and CESSENTIAL_indirect elements so that you can determine if the noise comes from GI or direct light. But this is just my guess.

1. No thickness
2. Checked everything, aswell with with and without courtain the render speeds up a lot when Curtains are off.
3. Thanks, will remeber that.

you can solve this problem by changing certain gi material in raiswitchmtl . see my examples

NO!!! YOU SHOULD NOT!
GLASS WORKS WELL JUST WITH CAUSTICS DISABLED! THERE IS NO NEED TO USE RAYSWITCHER!!!!
EVEN FASTER IS, IF YOU MAKE YOUR WINDOW GLASS JUST ONE POLYGON, WITHOUT THICKNESS, AND USE GLASS WITH THIN MODE ENABLED!!!!!!

Thanks for help, I understood what you did there, but I noticed that you placed your portal in really bad way.
Check Marus posts about that, he explained a lot about them.
Your help is apriciated, all of you.
