Title: Layered Material Issue
Post by: Mac3DX on 2022-11-02, 03:16:08
Hi guys

Why can't I make it work? It seemed to be working on the last version.

Hi there, what exactly are you trying to do? Please be as descriptive as possible so we can help you better :)

I'm trying to mask two materials with a vertex map, pretty simple. As you can see the transparent one is not being masked.

I've attached the file. Please, take a look at my post above.

Thanks

Hi there, I do not see any attached file. I tried it here and it seems to work as expected.

I will check your scene also...

Hey, I checked it out and the issue is caused by combining two refractive materials, the parameters from base layer affect the parameters in other layers. You can't combine those materials because it doesn't make much physical sense. I guess the workaround would be using either two objects or polygon selection, or maybe SSS material could be used for the opaque part in this case.

It doesn't matter what kind of materials you are masking, it should work. There is something wrong. I appreciate your help.

I appreciate your help, your material setup there is no layered node. Maybe a clue?

Hi, As my colleague mentioned, the issue here is two refractive materials. The missing layer shader made no difference here. Perhaps Filip's workarounds might help. Either way, we will look into it.

Perfect, thanks again. If that was a decision due to physics laws, at least it would be very nice to have them working with the legacy material. Anyway, IMO, that should not interfere with the masking process.
Have a nice day!

Sorry, I forgot to mention, this solution doesn't work for me, my work is 90% based on mask painting with vertexmap. This is an issue that needs to be resolved once and for all, this feature is indispensable for highly complex materials. I will try to use the trial version on 3DS Max.
