Title: Node locked VS floating license

I got mail from chaos corona about new “price upgrade”.
I don’t want make flame, I need to make an important question:

I primary use two corona licenses on a iMac and an MacBook Pro.
Usually I like to do fresh OS installation when a new one come out (Catalina, bigsur, etc).
How does node locked system works? It uses only hardware configuration or a mix of software and hardware?
