Hi
I haven't found much info on how to set up HDR lighting in Corona. A video on youtube shows how to place the HDR map in the environmental slot and portals on windows. It also talks about material override, but I don't understand why should there be a material override.
Is that the best way to do it? Are portals really necessary?
Thank you

portals are always 100% optional.
Rule of thumb is, if you don't understand a feature, you don't need to change it. You will get great results with the default settings.

Thank you so much! It's working fine with HDR in environmental slot. But this raises another question: I need to render on a black background, how do I do it? In Vray I put the HDR in a dome light and set the background to black. How do I make this in Corona?

Corona settings -> Enviroment -> Direct visibility override
-
Thank you. Problem solved!
-
Not solved after all... Direct Visibility Override doesn't work through glass windows. I'm rendering an interior scene and the exterior needs to render black but instead it renders the HDR envoronmental map. I can change it in post using the alpha channel but is there a way to do it in render?

I noticed that changing exposure and and temperature affects this, is there a away to make it ignore those settings?
I sometimes have the scene where I want to have some white bg, but I add a lot of temp, that changes a lot in the overal output.
What can I do?
-
use coronamapoutput map
-
I did, works just as I needed it to work, thanks
I noticed something, even if you add the coronamapoutput and mess with the whitebalance the bg is still affected.
The problem disapears if you click render again, yet it requires that operation. Not to complain, just informing.

yes, because if you thing about it, it cannot be done in any othe way. You cannot reliably change material properties in finished render
