Title: Linking
Post by: vinbarg on 2022-02-01, 18:16:26
Hello corona users, i have a max Q. I am working on project that contains several houses that are the same, same geometry and materials. My question is, can i work just on one model of the house, and have some kind of linking, on the positions of othere houses. I want to achive if i make any change on geometry or mapping i want to see it also on other models. Thank you for help.

Hmm, surely you're familiar with instancing in 3ds Max, aren't you?

Instancing, yes if i make changes on geometry it will apply on each model but what about texturing how can i achive it on each model? This is what i want to solve. Thx

You can apply different materials to instances.

I'm not sure what you mean by texturing. If you're talking about changes in UV mapping, then it's shared between instances too, but i'm sure you're aware about that. Maybe you want to be able assign a material to an object and that its instances would be assigned the same material automatically? If so, then there's a toggle in material editor options "propagate materials to instances", turn it on and your material assignement will be instanced too.
