Title: Outline render
Post by: furtonb on 2014-04-16, 14:35:22
Hi guys,

I'm wondering how to create this gentle stroke around objects with Corona, since it doesn't support Ink'n paint materials.

It's not a question of life and death, but any replies will be appreciated. :)

Original project can be found here, made by Ion:

subtle fresnel effect (+ black/dark/colored reflections) or edge in post

In the pictures you posted it looks like the geometry is simply white on the outside and black on the inside...

burnin:

Thanks for the advices, I can achieve the desired look with them. :)

maru:

Yes, the geometry is simply black and white, in front of a white background, this is why you cannot see the contours of the hemispheres that build the form up.
My question is towards the red highlighted part, if there was a way to have this effect with Corona, without any postproduction.
(Maybe this should go to the general CG topic, I don't know.)

Oh. I would try with a custom falloff map in diffuse slot.

Thank you maru, I wasn't aware of this ability of the falloff map... :D

I attached the structure of the material as well, in case anybody wants to create something similar in the future.

Thanks again, for both of you!

What is the purpose of AO here?
You can also experiment with an object that has no thickness and a CoronaFrontBackMap. :)

Making a slight brownish (or any colored) tone in the shadows (yeah, it happened to be too weightless to notice in this case, but this wasn't my final composition). For further explanation take a look at the attached picture.

Other workarounds are welcome!

I wanted to make a closeup shot (see attachment), that needed some thickness, so the FrontBack map didn't even come to my mind...:D but it has my attention now, thank you:)

Great solution Maru! :)
