Chaos Corona for 3ds Max => [Max] I need help! => Topic started by: Apostolis Christou on 2021-08-31, 12:55:36

Hello guys,
I have a very simple and small scene, though it has a strong DOF and motion blur on geometry.
When I start rendering system uses about 5 GB(I have a total of 64 GB) for the scene and suddenly somewhere between 9-10 render pass it start going up 300mb each time and the CPU is going down to 5%. That happens until RAM hit its limit and the system doesn't really responds, though I can save my file etc. but I cannot stop the render or something.
I tried deleting stuff, I tried removing DOF/blur still nothing. Sometimes the rendering pass can reach about to 30-40 but the result will be the same.
Any ideas here?

Can you let us know what version of Corona are you currently using?

I'm using the latest update.
I've tested several scenes and it only happens on this one. I haven't figured out yet what's causing it.

Can you send in the scene via private uploader?

Hi,
Thanks for your reply.
Before we start our investigation, please fill in this general survey form needed to troubleshoot your issue.
Link: https://docs.google.com/forms/d/e/1FAIpQLScO-6w4iP-MD3Drp-xsbu5SOL0NzxUOBuPoBTAEJdFMemKJlQ/viewform
Please also send us your scene for closer inspection of the problem. You can use our private uploader to send your scenes.

Let me know once you have submitted the form & sent your scene for a closer inspection.
Looking forward to it.

Same thing happening with me, although I have 32 gb RAM. Please Help!

I have the same issue.
It all starts ok with 26-28 gm of ram free until it just starts eating ram at a random time. Sometimes at pass 30, sometimes 70, 82... and CPU utilization goes way down ( 5% or so ). I must kill the process manually.
I used corona 7 when this happened first time, and tried hotfix 1 as well, but no luck.
I have absolutely no idea what the problem is. I completely disabled all displacement on the scene, although I doubt that is the problem.

I had problems with Physical materials in some v7 daily builds - refractive Physical Mtls using certain maps would go through the roof eating up RAM and CPU usage went down, quite similar to what is reported here. I have no idea if this is the case for you but maybe there still are some undetected edge cases with Physical Mtl.
For those who see this - what happens if you hide all object using refractive Physical Mtls?
-
I posted the solution that worked for me in another thread, but here it is again.
The problem in my case was the map in Base IOR slot of Corona Physical Mat. It was coronamix map with falloff map hooked in mix ( not sure if it matters in which spot it is hooked).
Anyway, I copied the object to a new scene, tried it without coronamix with falloff, and it worked, but as soon as I connect the map to Base IOR slot, in about 10-15 seconds, render stops, memory consumption goes through the roof, and 3ds max stops working.
I hope this helps. Check the materials after importing it to a new scene to save yourself from pain :D

Hi,
We have fixed some issues with rising memory and slow rendering in the latest v8 Daily Build https://forum.corona-renderer.com/index.php?topic=33839.msg190524#msg190524
Please can you download this build and see if the issue remains?
Thanks,
Rowan

Hi Rowmanns,
I am testing v8 daily buildright now. It seems like there are no issues now. I will test it more later, but for now, no problem. All works well. Wooohooo.
Cheers

Is it possible to get this fix as a hotfix in Corona 7?

Exactly my thoughts. Sounds scary and unpredictable - smells like Hotfix hopefully.
Good Luck

Just tested, removed complex IOR on all materials that had it and it solved our performance issues. Thanks Ubermaki!
Dev team, please include it in C7 hotfix!
edit: It`s new corona converter fault, for some reason it converts vray materials w/o any map in IOR, to top/bottom, mix, whatever set and f*** performance. I am pretty sure 75% performance issue qestions/threads posted here lately are due to this.

Hi,
We are looking into all possibilities :) Stay tuned, but for the time being I would suggest using the v8 Daily build as a workaround. (There are also some cool new features there such as caustics excludes)
Also, this isn't the fault of the converter, this is due to a bug in Corona itself.
Thanks,
Rowan
