Title: VDB Volume grid refraction bug?
Post by: spewdog on 2021-08-11, 09:59:10
Note* I tried to send through Contact Us first but it wouldn't work for some reason.

Hi all,

I'm trying to render a vdb volume grid through a refractive material and it's not working as expected, is this a bug or a limitation?

The attached image shows the issue. My set up is simply a vdb grid in the middle of a box with the default Corona Water material (with some volumetric colour).

Corona 7 with 3ds Max 2017.

Cheers,
Stu

This is interesting. We will look into this.

Reproduced and logged. Unfortunately I do not have any workaround for this.
Can you explain what is the use case for such a setup? Underwater explosion?

Cheers Maru!

All good, I was just curious if it were a bug or limitation, I was experimenting and found it so thought I'd check. Yeah underwater explosion, but also an alternative foam renderer.

A possible use case for this would be mist fields over water, currently struggling with this same bug as well.
