Hi, I'm working on interior scene, penthouse apartment with lots of windows.
For scene lights I have Corona sun and sky. Panorama photo of the view from the site is used as background mapped on cylinder for direct visibility, reflections and refraction.
The setup is done as described in here:
https://coronarenderer.freshdesk.com/support/solutions/articles/5000515605 (https://coronarenderer.freshdesk.com/support/solutions/articles/5000515605)
I have problems with black highlights in reflections from sun. I think it's known issue described in here:
https://coronarenderer.freshdesk.com/support/solutions/articles/5000516180-known-bugs-and-limitations (https://coronarenderer.freshdesk.com/support/solutions/articles/5000516180-known-bugs-and-limitations)
So my question is what is a proper way of using background planes in Corona?
I have tried different combinations with light material, disabling cast shadows on cylinder or excluding it from sun but the problem still persists.
I'm using Corona 6.2, Max 2021.

Hi,
You can use Corona Light mtl with "Emit light" off and uncheck visible in reflection and refraction to get rid of Black highlights when using with Corona sun. In case you want your scene to receive reflections from your backplate then you can simply use the Reflection and refraction override from the "Scene tab" in the Corona Renderer setup.
Here is a quick video recording showcasing the solution to your problem : https://bit.ly/3hVY8X9.
I added a mirror object in your scene to better showcase the reflection in your scene.
I hope this helps.
Thanks.

Avi

Hi Avi, thanks so much for detailed explanation.
I tried your solution. Problem with black highlights is solved now but mapping of reflections is a bit off when using scene tab overrides.
I solved this by modifying panorama photo and making a proper spherical map from it.
Thank you.
