Is it a shadow of a pine tree? Noise in shadow? Grainy image? Black? Red Square? Shadow square from a billboard/alpha trans?

Sorry, can't tell anything from a single image, as we'd need to know the geo, materials, and lighting in use here. You can send the scene to us via private uploader if you can't share it on the forum (link is in my signature), or for more work you can screen shot things like the scene set up, the materials in question, and so on, and post here. Thanks!
