Title: Animated Water
Post by: Jorge Sanchez on 2021-01-15, 17:56:50
Hi, I'm hoping someone can help me find a way to animate CoronaDisplacementMod so that it looks like real water. I played around with animating the noise z coordinates and also x-coordinates but not getting the desired results. Also not sure how to access the ease in and ease out curves for the noise map in the curve editor so that its constant. Any help is greatly appreciated. Thanks

Offset XYZ is not the best option to animate noise. It's better to resort to phase parameter. As for changing animation keys tangents, you can do that in track editor - find your material in the list and change tangents to linear.

Thank you romullus. I was able to find the displacementMap Phase in the Track View - Curve Editor and set the Tangents to Linear and then animated the Noise Parameters Material Phase from 0.0 to 5.0 in 100 fames and here are the results. What do you think?

I was thinking of now playing a bit with the X or Y position to make it look like rolling waves? Maybe? What else would you or anyone else suggest?
Thanks again for your help.

I think you can try to increase noise fractal levels slightly, at the moments your waves are a bit too smooth. If you want to have some directional movement, you can animate X, or Y offset and adjust tiling of respective axis to get some anisotropy in your waves.
