Title: Hability to save renders as DNG
Post by: Basshunter on 2021-01-11, 02:02:03
Dear Corona team,

This is something I've been wanting for a long time. I'd love to be able to use Adobe Camera Raw to post-process my renders as one would do with digital negatives.
Would something like this be possible?

Is there any benefit from using DNG instead of, for example EXR or TIF?

DNG is recognized by Raw Converters&Editors and allows their utilization of internal linear post-production.
None of those tool allow any other linear type of file, regardless of bit-depth (16.bit .exr, 32bit .exr, 32bit tiff). (Not talking about hack-ways which has plenty of issues).

There is no way to convert .exr or LINEAR .tiff into .dng. There is both 16bit and 32bit. DNG, both are internally linear.

This would be fantastic feature.

Side note - probably not that related, but maybe interesting to some:
I've recently discovered that Darktable, which is free and open source (https://www.darktable.org/) and has amazing capabilities can open and process 32-bit EXR files. Proof attached with fancy filmic adjustments applied. :)

Would love this idea to become a reality, Given much of the work corona users seem to do is emulating a photographic look i would very much appreciate the ability to edit with camera raw too.
Any update Maru? Is it logged currently?
Thanks!

Yeah I would still love DNG as well. EXR never became popular outside of VFX and is thus almost useless for still-image 3D Artists.

Whereas DNG continues to be ever more popular due to mobile photography.
