Chaos Corona for 3ds Max => [Max] I need help! => Topic started by: Herve-Marmillot on 2020-12-08, 11:35:42

Hi,
I've just updated to Max 2021 at the studio, but it seems that the Corona Converter doesn't do anything on the Conversion button click.
First of all, at the start of Max the material editor slots are full of Standard Physical Material. Before in Max 2018, I just had to click on conversion and all this slots were converted into CoronatMat standard slots, and that was great. now it doesn't do anything.
It's the same if I import some object with Forest who have a VrayMaterial. On the rendering it appeards as flat Red with an error message, and that's ok because it's Vray Material and I try to render with Corona, but before I just needed to click on version and all those materials were converted into corona mats and everything was ok. Does it need to have a version of Vray installed to correctly convert the VrayMat ?
Another quick help, does anyone now how to have already all material slots to be CoronaMat at the start of max ? That would be a great help.
Thanks a lot for your help.

Yes, you need to have Vray installed in the 3ds Max in order for Converter to work. Demo version of Vray will do just fine.

You can save maxstart.max file with Corona materials populated in compact material editor and everytime you'll start 3ds Max, it will load that startup scene.

Thanks, didn't know about that. Problem solved.

Already tried that many times, but don't work. Standard Physical mats still appears on the startup...
Anyone as a suggestion why the standard Mats also don't be converted ?

Max file alone doesn't help with default material editor slots, for that part you also need to edit the Mat file which I always forget where it goes...
(Medit file in /materiallibraries?)

I think so, it's not in relation with the maxstart file... I searched in the /materallibraries in MyDocuments but there is nothing here. Maybe we should create some "startup" library there ? Or maybe it's more located in the AppData /Max2021 folder ?
Would love to have this solution.
Thanks,

Yup, it's in the dreaded App data section :- ).

Hey I investigated and here is one additional step I did so that when you click "Restore" in Material Editor, it will also load your custom Medit file. Place it here (example 2021 version used):
C:\Program Files\Autodesk\3ds Max 2021\en-US\defaults
There are multiple subfolders, for example Max, these define your templates. In each is subfolder with factory defaults, for example this:
C:\Program Files\Autodesk\3ds Max 2021\en-US\defaults\MAX\FactoryDefaults
Place your custom Medit file here, and it will always load it when you click "Restore" :- )
