Title: Refraction does not render properly with adjusted object properties (3Ds max)
Post by: johan belmans on 2014-03-18, 21:15:41
Hi

I have a treeline mapped on a cylinder. Within the "object properties" of the Treeline object, "cast shadows" is deselected (visible to reflections/refractions is selected).
In front I have a building with a ballustrade of glass.
When I render this, the building is "refracting", but the Treeline object is not.

When within the object properties "Treeline object" I switch back to "by Layer", refraction is rendering properly.

Does it happen also with A6?

Yes

While testing the above problem, I found out there is another bug with the Object properties.
When you deselect receive shadows, corona will still render shadows. In Mental ray I get the expected results.

See images.

The most on top teapot his object properties are "By layer"
The one below has "by object" with Receive and Cast Shadows deselected.
The one below has "By object" with Cast shadows deselected
The bottom one has "by object" with Receive shadows deselected

the receive shadows feature is not yet implemented. I am not sure if I will ever implement it, it does not go well with the physical rendering

I know your point of view about that :-)

But:
-in case of reflection planes and this is usefull.
-in case of the attached image, it would be nice if my greyish groundplane could not receive shadows.

make the ground plane lightMtl with disabled emission, you will get both better result and faster rendertime ;)

OK I will give it a try

many thanks

this problem still exist in A7, if turn off cast shadow in obj property, the object will become transparent in refraction like glass
