Hello everyone,
I am trying to set up a small "studio setting" for jewelry products I'm planning to render, but I just can't manage to get the lighting setup
and the right materials for Metals (gold) and Gems (diamonds). I am currently using a simple backdrop, with 3-4 targeted lights.
I attached some screenshots of my setups and the gold material I am using for the metal
I am relatively satisfied with the dispersion of the diamonds, yet the metals are catching aggressive black reflections from the environment.
To eliminate those reflections and get a more natural feel, I tried the following:
1. Adding an HDRI of studios and interior rooms
2. Adding a gradient map with different combinations of black, whites and grays and using as environment
3. Isolating the jewelry in a completely closed environment (globe/light box)
However I still did not get any results. I attached some photos to show some of the results I obtained.
Can anyone offer any help? What am I doing wrong here?
Thank you for your attention, any feedback would help!

Well it depends on what you are trying to replicate. So you'd need to find a source image that you like and then work towards that. You'd need to then find all of the details which went into that shot and add those to yours - it depends how the photographer has set up his scene. Obviously a ring or metal item is very reflective so it's going to pick up a lot of details surrounding the scene and I guess that's why you added the HDRI. However adding an HDRI isn't the same as recreating the scene. I would start by looking for YouTube videos showing how to do jewellery photography and set up your scene in the same way. Make sense?

Yes I totally agree. I might be trying to find an easy way around that but I need to recreate the real setup completely. Thanks for the help! :D
