Hi,
i would like to let you know that Autodesk released SP4 for Max 2014. I recommended you all to install SP3 to get rid of bug that caused extremely slow texture reading and therefore starting of rendering. But Autodesk managed to break real time rotation of environment map in viewport. In SP4, this should be resolved, so you can finally have version where textures load properly and you can rotate enviro in realtime. :)
Go get it here: http://knowledge.autodesk.com/support/3ds-max/downloads/caas/downloads/content/autodesk-3ds-max-2014-service-pack-4.html

Thanks, Im downloading now. You know if more bugs are fixed?
-
The regression introduced in 3ds Max 2014 SP3 which prevented the Environment Map from updating with the Bitmap Offset has been resolved.
Hah, so this is why it worked for me using VrayHDRi anyway. Looks like lot of other bugs too, so I'll upgrade...and see.

Hi,
and you can rotate enviro in realtime. :)
Ah finally, that was a nasty one. I discovered that it occured with nitrous viewport and not directx, but then the fps was extremely low.
downloading and installing
Was this a contribution from you Corona team? Cuz I read somewhere on this forum you were still waiting for some replies from Autodesk at some point.

Watch out, SP4 has currently been retracted by Autodesk.
So for the meantime stick with SP2 if you want realtime viewport background rotation.
-
I have sp3 installed, but have no problems with realtime viewport update, whatsoever. Should i be worried?

Indeed, last one is sp3 now. WTF and those ******** don't even write a note somewhere why they did it or a warning that they have currently fucked up my computer/job/installation. No email, nothing. GREAT, thanks autodesk.

O_O

Ok, i searched for some info, and SP4 was taken down cause in specific case of having MR background switcher as an environment map and having environment map displayed in viewport 3ds Max crashes. So unless you specifically use Mental Ray with env/background switcher map in enviro slot and have that map displayed in viewport (which makes no sense as that map always displays black anyways), you should not be worried. :)

At least something... , but they don't tell their customers about it - unacceptable.

Autodesk are getting more and more arrogant IMHO. The fact that they haven't solved the Revit/MAX mapscale problem after having know that at least the last 4 generations shows it all. And their head of development has even admitted the problem some few years ago - and still nothing has happened.
Amazing to know that Revit behind the scenes are using feet as main unit - probably the most computer unfriendly unit possible.

So does max :-D (by default)
[edit] ah, crap, I mean inches. All those non-metric units are too confusing :D

A workaround I find useful is to set the display unit scale in my case to meters and the system units to feet. Now you don't have mapscale problems when you import Revit files into MAX. But then again, Autodesk doesn't seem to be bothered to fix this issue.
Realtime viewport environment mapping is working now though since I installed SP4.

"UPDATE: Based on your feedback we have taken down SP4 to investigate the environment map issue."

Yep. I recommend everyone using 2014 to get this SP as soon as possible :)

15 minutes install for a 133MB file...
I raged hard.

For an Autodesk product, that's actually pretty quick!
I have to build Max deployments for our organization, I spend far more time than I like watching AD install screens.
-
on the contrary. The entire 3dsmax installs faster than this friggin update on my SSD
-
Well, I guess I've become too used to the network installs and licensing we do here then.
I really must upgrade to an SSD soon. I keep putting it off.
-
I don't get it either, each ******* sp installs so painfully long - I'd be happy if it was just 15 minutes most of the time. I had one (must have been 2012) which took so long to install that I had run it as a command job on the farm during the night.

9 minutes for me :) No SSD.
-
maybe it depends on something like number of 3dsmax installations on the disk. I got 8 :-D
-
took me 8 mins with SSD and only one installation of max
-
4-5 min. SSD drive. Nothing weird
