Hello,
Material library is great, but it could be fast&simple to get some material preset.
Ok, i have to confess, i've given a fast look at RedShift render : fast (GPU power), but not as good as Corona ;-)
But i've found that the small preset starter for materials is a great idea for beginers. (i'm 3D teacher in highschool, and sometimes it would help).
Pease have a look at the screenshot.

I am not really sure. That's exactly why we have the material library. You can just drag and drop a material like that.
We can look into it if more users back up the idea.

The material library is ok, but already finished ones.
90% of the time we create our own shaders, and to have s starter preset could fasten things.
Just :
Plastic
Glass
Metal
Fabric
Ceramic
...

How about something like a starter pack in the material library? :)
-
That could help, indeed.

So essentially a physical material template to build on, if I recall Mental Ray had something similar at a point.
Personally I've made my own library for this type of work.
-
Yeah, you can easily create a simple library like this in 3ds Max and save it.
-
Of course i can,
i thin about newbies : as a 3D teacher, i'm very aware of newbies ;-)

I think that for newcomers it is especially useful to not have any presets. That way they will have to create their first materials by hand and will better learn the software. But of course, everyone is different and each has their own needs and preferences.

+1!
I can't agree enough with this, many new users simply rely to finding everything ready and eventually getting lost in asset libraries.

The Corona mats presets, can they be editing and added too to use them as a you need.
I have looked and it seems not.
That would be handy to be able to add libraries too.
