Title: opacity
Post by: celmar on 2019-11-04, 16:15:36
hi!!!   In one scene, (see joined picture) there is a woman's face, with a tatoo becoming a real "snake", in animation...    I need, to get a convincing translation between the tatoo and the "real" snake, that the beginning of the snake fade... So, I use an alpha map in the channel "opacity"... But,I don't understand why, it doesn't work: is it because the mesh is rigged? Or i miss something??? thank you for help!!!!

in fact, I've exported, then re-imported the "snake's tail" in the scene, and the shader of opacity works fine on the non-rigged mesh... the only difference I can see is the fact that the tail's snake wich doesn't work ,is rigged, and animated, ... There is a way to solve that???

Hi! This is interesting. There should be no difference between opacity and diffuse channels in this regard. So the diffuse channel textures map fine? If so, what's the difference between them and the opacity channel?

well, Houska, I'm not sure to understand what you mean!...   the diffuse channel has the color information, and is textured all long the snake... Another map, just in black and white, is used as alpha map, to get the beginning of the snake "vanishing", due to the gradient of black... if the snake is a mesh, without bones, it's work fine... If it's rigged, the alpha map in "opacity" channel doesn't work as an alpha (well, doesn't work in any sense)...   It's impossible to understand for me!!!

Yeah, I understand what you mean. And it is weird for me as well. We will try to reproduce it and let you know! Alternatively, you can upload the scene (only the snake should be enough) using our private uploader and we would be able to investigate it more quickly.

Houska, I save the scene with just thje snake, rigged, and the shader...  Where can I find your "private uploader"?? the size is 48,2 Mo... is it too heavy? It willl be fine if you can investigate the probleme, thanks!!!!

Thanks, this will be great! 48Mb is OK :-)

The uploader is in my forum signature link below, with the text "Upload bug report scenes here"

it seems that the upload has been done, but I'm not sure at all (no cursor), Houska!...

Hi Houska!!!   ok, I’m all red with shame! there was a shader below the hierarchie, which "took over" and made visible the base of the snake!... sorry!! sorry!!!!!!!!!
