Hi,
I'm having issues with jagged shadows for an interior render.
(See attached)
Render specs_
1920 x 1080 - 72DPI - will be animation
rendering out as PNG image sequence - 16 bit
noise level limit - 3
denoising - corona high quality 0.3
preset - animation (flicker free)
All seals in ceiling and windows are closed.
PC & scene specs:-
C4D R20 + Corona 4
Win 10
AMD ryzen 16 core
RTX 2080
32GB
Any ideas?

What is the lighting of the scene? HDRI in Corona dome mode by chance?
-
Corona sky + sun
Then a HDRI with a compositing tag
screenshots show object hierarchy
other screenshot shows compositing tag on the hdri
-
It's happening in multiple different cameras/angles also.
Assumed may have been a camera issue but seems directly related to the lighting or materials.
See screenshot attached for light pixelation in another area of the environment.
Seems to only be pixelated on the cabinetry, not the floor.
Would this signal a material issue.
Also it only seems to do it when rendering the final render. When using the corona IR it does not happen everytime
-
Ok so after alot of testing the jagged shadow edges seem to be a material issue.
When I disable the reflection completely in the corona material the jagged edges smooths out and goes away.
See below for noisy result but no jagged edges once reflection channel is turned off.
However this results in unrealistic reflections. Any amount, even .01 of reflection causes this jagged edge.
How to get around?
FYi it's animation so post edits will not work

Probably need to know more about the scene - does the material have Glossiness of less than 1? (Ah I see that it does - what happens with Glossiness of 1?) Is the light coming in through glass, or directly onto the material? Does changing either of those make a difference? What is the light, a Corona Sun?
Thanks!
-
Yes Corona Sun & Sky
Have tried different glossiness levels and still get the jagged edge when any amount of reflection is enabled.
Only way to avoid is disable reflection channel completely (untick)

To me this looks like an issue with the normals of the cabinet.
See if you can try a different normal angle for the cabinets, and or cleaner geometry for it, if it's triangulated.
-
I still think it has more to do with HDRI, rather than with material. Can you try to remove HDRI or just turn off seen by reflection option?
-
Hi @daveclive. What are the values of your sun & sky? Are they set to 1, or did your lower them to something like 0,002?
-
Can you send the scene file for us to investigate? Would save a lot of guessing ;)

Sure will send thew scene in.
Yep, values for sun are at 0.35. Was far too bright otherwise, even with the compression up at 40
The geometry is very clean, still parametric cubes

Thanks. I'd also like to add that we have had similar cases reported for artifacts that look similar to yours (C4D & Max). It's unsure at this point if they are all related. With that said, the issue is in an ongoing investigation which we hope to resolve.
