Title: Selection of cores in the VFB
Post by: rmartineziruela on 2019-08-25, 22:58:23
A good utility would be to be able to select in the crown frame buffer itself the possibility of using more or less cores. Imagine launching a render with all cores and in the middle you want to select less because you have a new task to do while rendering. Thank you

Hi, thanks for the suggestion. What exactly would you like to achieve with this? All rendering threads already run in below normal priority, so any other tasks you do should not be any slower.

I like the idea, I think it comes in handy when you perhaps have an animation or a really long still image rendering on the workstation but then you want to start working on another project and you want the current project to just roll with half the cores - sort of like what we do with GPU rendering where you just enable the GPUs you want currently rendering.

That being said, I'm not sure how exposing this in the VFB would help per say. You'd still probably have to restart the render at which point its a minor step to just go under Corona settings in the render setup menu and just punch in the amount of cores you want working on the current render. So thats already implemented just no in the VFB :)

For me such option would be completely useless and to see it on the VFB, where real estate is at premium, would be very disappointing. Anywhere in render settings, sure, why not, but on VFB? No. Just NO!

I vote no.
This could be easily changed by accident, and/or overlooked.
