Title: X-Particles support for C4D yet?
Post by: syverapt on 2019-03-27, 10:14:05
The last discussion I found was several years old.

I've been using Corona on and off since the alpha came out, and I considered it my go-to renderer for photorealism. The only reason I would ever NOT use Corona was for x-particles work, since there was no support last I checked. Since we now need to make a decision whether or not we want to pay for a subscription, it would be nice to know if X-particles is integrated yet.

No support yet, in the sense of no specific development done for that third party plugin. At the moment, all our focus has been on core Cinema 4D features and things that are built in to C4D. I'm not personally familiar with X-Particles, so can't say how well it works with Corona, if there are things like "render as geometry" or other modes that make it work without specific support or not, so all I can say is no specific development has been done for it, but how well it works without specific support I don't know, sorry.

X-Particles really should get basic support :) Every other 3rd party engine supports it in one way or another. The X-Particles team have done such an awesome job in making it feel like a built in tool that it might as well be part of Cinema.

Even if we can get some super basic rendering support that would be enough to hold Corona over until it could be more fully developed.

Doesn't X-Particles utilize elements from Mograph and Instances and Multi-Instances? I'm not sure, but I seem to remember some mention of this in the past. Perhaps when they solve the existing issues with Mograph, it will make it easier to get Corona and X-Particles to play nice together.

I would say supporting X-Particles and the volume grid are the last two features to make Corona a serious competitor to Octane & Redshift. It's hard to use Corona in a production pipeline when it doesn't support particles or true volume rendering.

I am hoping these features are added at some point because I think Corona is a wonderful render engine, I'd like to see it become more widely adopted.

Congratulations on V6 by the way!

Definite WANT !!
I still don't understand why after 3 years this hasn't been implemented!!

Just to add a little bit to this discussion. Shawn Astrom has a workaround video for getting X-Particles to render with Corona. It's a little bit of a hack, but it works. Check it out.

+1 As everyone's using x-particles fro pretty much every cool rendering, this is definitely a MUST DO. Thank you for the timely implementation!
