Title: Can't get my Displacement Map to show in Corona Renderer
Post by: MartinBerthelsen on 2019-03-08, 13:42:08
Hello

I've been trying to fix this all day... But can't seem to find a fix for it.

I'm trying to make a credit card, the Displacement Map worked fine before I tried switching from Cinema 4D's renderer to Corona. I have set up all the materials from new using the Corona ones and still it won't show up on the model in the renderview. I am using the Layered Material to put them all together.

Please note that I'm still new in 3D!

Hi Martin. I'm not a C4D user, but for layered materials the same applies to both Max and C4D: displacement only works in the base layer. So put the displacement map in the base layer, and it should work - unless there's a bug in C4D.

Hope it helps

Hi Martin, Can't really add much more than PROH has already mentioned. Instead, I have created the scene file for you. Note that I included a mask for the lettering to be excluded from the card colour. It should be enough to get you started. Hope that helps. ;)

Sorry for my late answer... I have been sick through the whole weekend... :(

I will try it out now, thanks a lot for the help guys! :)

Well... It worked, now it shows the displacement map... But it just created another problem for me.

It looks really weird and pixelated for some reason, any idea why? I have done it exactly like you did in the file you uploaded.

Oh, and here's the screenshot of it, forgot to attach it to my other comment.

What's the displacement settings of the material and what's the texture map you are using? Is it low rez?

The displacement map is pretty high res.

The only difference from mine is I used the blur scale and offset. The offset was 1% and the scale was 3%. Maybe that will help?

It looks that your displacement size is simply too big. You should decrease displacement screen size or world size, depending on which you're using.

Changing the blur- offset and scale actually helped quite a bit, though it still look... "broken".

Sorry, but what exactly do you mean about decreasing the screen size or world size? :)

It's displacement quality settings. I don't know where exactly these are located in C4D, but i'm sure, Bengamin will tell you.

It's late in Europe, but not so late in the States, so I'll post it :)

Yep, that's it. I also used the default settings in my example. Lowering it will improve the look of displacement when viewed up close but I don't think that's the issue here. I'd still try blurring the displacement scale in the material options. At least you'll be narrowing it down.

Thanks for the help everyone, I can get it to work somewhat, but still not quite perfect. But I'll try fiddling with the settings a bit more. :)
