Title: wrong corona sun position?
Post by: bastille on 2019-03-04, 14:00:53
Hello,
My corona sun is higher in the vfb than in my viewport with the safe frame activated. Did I miss something or is it a bug?
I'm working with max 2019.3 corona 3.1

I'd guess that's because the sun theoretically is much much further away than the light sphere. So the sun symbol you see in the editor isn't actually the sun itself.

Thank you for your answer
you think? I have the impression that since I use corona, I can trust the viewport to position the sun
no?

you're right, if I align the target of the sun with the position of the camera, the position of the sun in the viewport is accurate. I never realized this before ...
I learn everyday !
Thank you

Viewport icon simply cannot accurately represent sun's apparent location in the sky. It's easy to see this, if you select sun object, change coordinate system to local and move sun back and forth in Z direction. Notice how sun apparently changes its location in the viewport, but it will always stays in the same position when rendering, because azimuth and zenith angles aren't changed.
