Title: mappable translucency fraction value
Post by: romullus on 2013-12-20, 01:15:55
Hi,
would be really nice to be able to assign map to translucency fraction. Is it possible?

Its already there, right side from color assignment in translucency section

I don't think translucency colour is the same as fraction. For example you can set translucency colour to black and it still will be visible.

Definitely not the same. In mental ray one can assign map to translucency color as well as weight. It's very usefull.

Translucency weight in MR and translucency fraction are two extremely different things. Weight in MR defines blend between translucency and refraction effect. Fraction is corona is equal to having translucency weight in MR set to 1.0 and changing refraction level.

Yes, you are right, but that doesn't void my request. Without that feature i find quite difficult to create believable foliage material.

Currently, translucency texture carries color and weight at once. So put very contrasty map into translucency slot, and do not forget to compensate the saturation as most contrast functions increase saturation as well.

I tried it, but i don't like how it behaves. Besides it's impossible to have partly translucent and partly not material that way. Ability to assign map to fraction would be very nice to have.
Anyway, thank you for your help!

it does NOT carry weight, it carries color only.
If you mean by weight the quantity of effect.

+1 for the request, it does not behave very nicely for now in the current way.

Added + changed the way it works. Will be explained
