Title: HDRI reflection override fireflies
Post by: SmurfN on 2018-12-11, 12:50:27
Capture1 - corona Sun used as light source, only hdri in the reflection override slot.
Capture2 - hdri used as light source and reflections. (no fireflies)
Capture3 - hdri settings, (fireflies dissappear if you turn down hdri exposure but then you don't get any reflection from hdri (duh))

This is a side effect of separating light and reflections (or refractions) rays.

What you can do instead is to use the HDR for lighting but clamp its output. That way it only generates ambient light (which you still need) and you won't have to use reflection overrides.

Yes, sadly there is no reliable solution to this yet, only workarounds. But of course we are planning to fix it.

Is there a fix for HDRI reflection override causing fireflies?

Unfortunately it seems the issue is very complicated and requires a lot of planning to get it done right. We do however have it well documented in our internal bug tracker.

Hello,

Thank you all for your patience. This should now be fixed in the v8 daily builds: https://forum.corona-renderer.com/index.php?topic=33839.msg190180#msg190180

Please give it a go and let me know if there are still any issues.

Cheers,

Rowan
