Title: Question about using objects from vendors (Design Connceted, CGAxis, etc.)
Post by: John.McWaters on 2018-11-27, 15:14:37
I just made the switch from V-Ray for Sketchup to Corona. I am familiar with a variety of vendors products from Design Connected, CG Connected, etc.

I would like to find out the best way to incorporate these items into workflow with Corona and 3dsMax.

I'm a beginner w/ 3dsMax. I cannot figure out what the best method would be for getting an object into my file I intend to render. For instance, if I need a chair from Design Connected to be inserted into my scene, I would first open up the .max file supplied by Design Connected. Would I then copy and paste the chair from that file into another instance of 3dsMax that has my scene file?

As a side question, I would like to know if there's an effective way to save-out object or groups of objects as components or blocks, similar to Sketchup. I apologize for asking such beginner questions. I don't intend to clog this thread with posts as basic as this one.

To get a model into your scene, open the main scene, then go to File - Merge, and select the object (chair for example) you want to merge in.

If the chair in this example isn't setup for Corona, you need to run the Corona Converter Script and with that object selected you need to convert materials for that object.

If you want to save an object from an existing scene, select the object, then go to File - Save Selected.

That's should be a good start for you.

To find the Corona Converter Script, with you scene open and model merged in, go to Scripting - Run Script and assuming you haven't changed any installation paths, it will be found under the Corona Scripts Folder.

You can also just drag and drop supported 3d file from explorer to 3ds max viewport and choose appropriate action from a menu that will pop up.
