Title: lights problem (solved)
Post by: Nelaton on 2018-11-16, 16:29:51
Hello ,
I have one question regarding the numbers of corona lights c4d can handle in a scene. Are we limited to a precise amount because,
I've read a thread on the 3ds max section, where it was pointed that for the moment around 240 corona lights could be used in a corona max scene.
If more are in the latter, it may cause  problems such as splotches.

It has probably change since the thread,  but here on c4d, I've got a scene lighted with more than 240 corona lights, and blotches are appearing on the walls at render end (cf screenshot attached).
Number of pass is 20 and i'd like to keep this number as low as possible.
Do you have any clue of what can cause those lights splotches?
Thanks in advance,

Nelaton

How did you get 250 lights into the scene?

Do you use light materials or the self-illumination option?

20 passes isn't much. ;)

And that limitation in Max was a LONG time ago - back in 2016, when version 1.4 came out, that restriction went away :) https://corona-renderer.com/blog/corona-renderer-1-4-for-3ds-max-released/

Eddoron,
Lots of indirect lights, and ceiling is actually made of sector ones (we found the result quite convincing)+ light mats. This is an office  ceiling.
This puts the cursor way out of 250 lights.

Beanzvision, i know, it is not that much, but this came out good on our latest scenes (not using corona lights) but rather light mats alone.
Things is we found the use of sector lights much convincing when coupled with light mats.

Thanks for your answers,
TomG, i'm not sure the splotches comes directly from the high number of lights.
but after many tests trying adjusting the render settings parameters we did not find our way, and they still remains.
so, would you know a way to get rid of this splotches? or lessen them?
thanks in advance,

Nelaton

Ok, small update on this 'problem'. We found, this was due to directionality of our sector lights. We put them at 70° and this was too much.
Cheers,
