Title: Recreating Live edge perspex
Post by: Jpjapers on 2018-09-03, 14:19:04
In the attached image is a picture of what is called live edge perspex.
I cant replicate this in corona physically. Does anyone know why?
I need to build some  acrylic sculptures for a client and i cant figure out how to make it happen.

Someone here did it for another renderer but i cant figure it out in corona.

Id really appreciate someone chiming in if they have any thoughts. Its for client work and theres a deadline as always!

Have you tried SSS "glass"?

I think only option is fake rendering, you may assign second material for edges with self illumination

The bright edges in the reference pic are caused by reflections/refractions of some light source. So to reproduce this you would have to recreate not only that material, but also lighting.

live edge acrylic takes in light and bounces inside the object until it reaches an edge so any light source causes that effect even in bright daylight

Yes it's almost glowing not just refract as glass, so only to achieve this is fake edges,  imho

The one from the video is called "fluorescen":, so maybe it really does emit light?

Here are some ideas. I think the last one is closes to reality (basically edges have lower refraction glossiness), and the one with self illumination looks best.

Here my another fake attempt  with double edges inserted in glass boxes
