When you push the Lightmix >Scene button it zeroes out the VFB (correct) but it also zeroes out all the images you've saved in the History (incorrect).
-
Pressing that button does not clear (remove) the content of the VFB for me, or the content of the VFB history.
What exactly do you mean by "zeroes out"? :)

I mean the zeroing process that happens to the values you change. So for example you bump the environment from 1.0 to 2.0, then hit >Scene and it pops up and warns you that it will zero the LightMix values and bake the multiplier value into the actual scene light. At this point the VFB goes dark (because it's showing the old render, and the Env is set to 1.0 again). Which is fine. The problem is that if you have any history renders saved in the VFB it also "zeroes" those out, so they all get darker/change too, and of course that should never happen.

So the idea here is basically that all post processing options (exposure, highlight compression, contrast,...... and also LightMix) should be applied to the current VFB content, and not to the history items?

Exactly, yep.

Current behaviour felt strange to me at first, but now when i got used to it, it seems preety logical. Sometimes i would like that history snapshot would keep its initial tonemapping, sometimes i like it how it is. It depends on situation. Maybe switch would be the best option?

A switch/button to apply to the selected history item would be great. Logically surely the default behaviour should be not to touch anything in the history. You're working on the current VFB, after all - the whole idea of a history is to compare the current VFB result with stuff in your history - that's impossible if any changes are pushed throughout the whole history. Should definitely be a manual thing.

So there could be a "keep original post" option in the history tab? If unchecked, then the current post settings would be applied.
