Title: Disable shadows causes artefacts
Post by: DPS on 2018-03-27, 00:47:14
EDIT - Turns out that my issue was caused by me not disabling visible to reflections on the hidden geomtry.

Why do I have to disable shadows AND reflections if I just want to disable shadows? If I just disable shadows then I get the artefacts shown on the above attachment.

Sorry I should have kept my first post.

Also if I disable reflections on some plants behind my camera, it also disables shadows...

Guess I can only use the Rayswitch material and not the max options? This is doable but I have to create two materials when some need these options and some don't. As oppose to a simple tick box.

I can see two issues here:
1) Since Corona Renderer is physically correct, disabling the GI will also disable shadow casting. It makes sense if you think about it: if an object does not reflect light (GI off) then it will also stop casting shadows, as the light will pass through them. If you disable shadows, then it also means that no light will be reflected, and hence no GI.

2) There are known bugs related to non-physical light transport. This includes for example reflections of objects which are not visible to the GI. See "light transport issues" at https://coronarenderer.freshdesk.com/support/solutions/articles/5000516180-known-bugs-and-limitations
