Title: Backburner & Noise limit
Post by: Vyacheslav Volkov on 2018-03-26, 17:21:31
Hi, for the first time we decided to try out corona to render the animation, instead of vray.

The, unfortunately, the experience was pretty bad, our goal was to render animation on the weekends, we did some tests before everything was fine for the first time, so we thought everything will be alright. (we had no time to test things out)

We have 30 computers they all share the same max version and plugins, so there is no problem with software, we don't have problems with computers when we use vray.

We were using noise limit so the computers can end rendering when it reaches required noise limit, the problem was that some frames randomly decided to stop rendering faster, then it should, so we ended with the flickering problem, the solution was to use pass limit instead of the noise level.

I won't be able to share a scene, we signed NDA but the scene was dark and very complex with 600~ artificial light sources and volumetric fog.

Luckily we managed to render animation but we had to lower the quality dramatically just to make it in time because of this bug.

Thanks, and I hope this problem will be checked :)

We have the same problem. Thank you  for the solution to use pass limit. We had not thought. The bad thing is that we are late...

We've received some similar reports and are looking into this right now.
@Albert, could you contact us at support@corona-renderer.com about your problem, and provide some additional details (what exactly is happening, Corona version, Max version), and send us the problematic scene if possible? Ideally we would have to reproduce this issue and find out what is causing it.

It has happened in our last project in ALL  scenes that we have rendered with noise limit (about 10 differents scenes). Corona version 1.7 hotfix 3.
We have rendered with 7 computers of different configurations. Some are old computers. All with Win 7 except the newest with Win 10.
We believe that the only computer that has not given problems has been  the Win10 one, but we are not sure...

Sad to hear that. Please use the pass limit as a workaround.
Could you please contact us about this at support@corona-renderer.com ? This would be the best way to make sure we investigate this and provide a fix as quickly as possible.
Thank you.

Ok.  We will do that.
Thank you

We have received an example scene and test results to try to reproduce the issue on our end.
We are looking into this.

According to our tests there is an improvement in Corona 3.1 and 4 (newest daily) compared to Corona 1.7 and 2. The pass number and rendering time differences between different frames are minimal. It would be great if others could test Corona 3 with noise limit as well and let us know if everything is fine now or not.
