Title: Rendering only on slaves
Post by: garurumon on 2018-02-11, 17:27:50
Hi!

I am playing with network rendering to send jobs to my workstation from my laptop.

Is it possible to render only on slaves and not on master?

I'd like to keep my laptop cool and not active while rendering.

Thanks in advance!

Easy.
Lets assume you have computers ABCDE, BB = Backburner.
on your workstation, set DR render to use BCDE.
then send the file to BB and in BB select use only computer A.
as BB receives the job, it will use A and A will work with BCDE.

I use this method quite a lot and it lets me work on my workstation while others "DRF9BB" (Distributed Render - Renders - Backburner).

Not possible with Corona DR itself, as the machine initiating the render is always the master so always takes part in rendering and does all the handing-out and gathering-up of info from the nodes. But yes, can be done using Backburner (or Team Render if you are using Cinema 4D, which doesn't require the use of DR for either "all included machines render one frame" or "each included machine renders its own frame" as it natively supports both approaches; Backburner however only supports the second, and DR is needed to be used as well to get the first solution).
