Title: 2 Sky HDRI's + Scene Environment MacOS
Post by: mrittman on 2018-01-27, 18:30:37
Hey there my name is Matt Rittman and I have a bug to report. When using two HDRI's... one for a background and the other for lighting, it actually renders the one for lighting, and not the one I have set up to use as the background. Followed this tutorial:

Here's a scene file: https://www.dropbox.com/s/uyssts615i7aiwo/hdri.zip?dl=0 (https://www.dropbox.com/s/uyssts615i7aiwo/hdri.zip?dl=0)
Corona: Jan 23 2018 (RC3)
OS: MacOS 10.13.3
Cinema 4D: R19.024

Thank you, and have a wonderful day.

Yours truly,
Matt Rittman

You have just one single HDRI map&material applied to both skies. That's why it doesn't work.

That shouldn’t matter I wouldn’t think? The texture tag should dictate what the rotation values are.

Then I misunderstood that. You were talking about two HDRIs and the tutorial also uses different maps as backgrounds. So I assumed Maps. With two maps everything works as intended.

It looks like here's a conflict.

Meanwhile, you can circumvent it through the scene environment options.

edit: can confirm. If only one material is used on both skies, there's the problem. If the materials is duplicated and copied to the second sky it works.(see pic)

Ahhh okay I didn’t realize you could get around it by duplicating the material. Will try that for now. Thanks Eddoron!

Glad I could help. Don't forget the scene environment tab in the crn render settings. It's just as easy.
Many HDRI packs come with multiple resolution files and you can plug in a  small 1024px hdr/exr map for the illumination and higher resolution files as jpgs for the other channels.
That way you get the same result but save a lot of ram.

Cool I hadn’t actually used the environment tab in the Corona render settings yet, but this will be a good time to experiment :) Thanks again!

Hey Eddoron, not sure what's going on but even when I try using the scene environment tab in the Corona render settings, it doesn't do anything when I change Offset U.

The environment tab works correctly. Maybe you made a mistake using it. You don't plug in the sky but the materials. no sky needed.
I just tried it in IR and all channel that I used were responsive and changed their offset/rotation.

Hmmm something is wrong on my end, cuz I did plug in the materials and tried changing the offset, and it does nothing. Maybe the Mac version has the bug?

Well, that's weird. Could be a Mac issue. I work on Win, so I can't help there. But maybe it's something different.
Could you please share a file where that problem occurs?

Yeah it's gotta be a mac issue, because I just tried adjusting the Offset U on my PC and it works just fine. I just used the scene file from above. Plugged the HDRI into Scene Environment in the Corona Render settings, enabled the Override checkbox, and adjusted the Offset U and it works fine.

Can someone else with a Mac see if they're having the same problem?

Yep, Offset U/V under Scene environment still doesn't work even in this new RC4 build on MacOS. Scene is here:

Hi Matt,

I tested your scene on my mac in Cinema 4D R19.024 with Corona RC4 and it works (in offline renderer and also in IR). I would like to ask you to create screen recording of your problem and to upload it somewhere to be sure I am reproducing your problem in the right way (I simply downloaded your scene, opened it in Cinema and immediately started IR and when I change "Render Settings -> Scene environment -> Offset U/ Offset V" rotation of HDRI map successfully changes).

Thank you
Nikola

Sure I'll do a screen recording tonight when I get home!

Okay I see where the problem is! The problem seems to be only when typing in a specific value and pressing enter. When adjusting the value using the spinner however, it works. I have done a screen recording:

Please let me know if there's anything else you guys need! Thanks!
