I'll just leave this here.. something like this would be great to add some depth to large medium distance buildings..

Is something like this technically possible for an engine like Corona?
-
That would be really cool. As far as my understanding goes, that should be totally possible if Corona would support OSL - something that is requested for a long time now. I think that V2 would be a perfect release for OSL support to finally happen :]
-
This would save so much time when doing exteriors.
-
Omg yes ! implement this feature :o
-
bump with interest 9000 :)
-
Would be great indeed! This tech is heavily used in real-time projects! It's called parallax mapping
-
please, don't forget this feature idea :)
It could be very useful in many cases
(fake windows, fake ceiling holes/light/wallplugs etc etc...)
-
This is now possible with the integration of OSL in Max 2019, see Zap's post over at cgtalk here:

Will play with that as soon that Corona is release for 3ds Max 2019 :)
-
Corona for 3ds max 2019 is already there: https://forum.corona-renderer.com/index.php?topic=19778.0
Now go and play :]

Yep, 1.7.4 with 3ds Max 2019 support is already out.
There's no daily build for 3ds Max 2019 yet, but it should be out in a few hours :)
-
But OSL should work with 1.7.4 too, isn't?
-
Well, at least the basic stuff we tested did work in 1.7.4 :)
-
very specific shader now doable with OSL, so closing this down
