Title: Alpha channel affected by Tone Mapping
Post by: grasshopper on 2017-08-21, 01:16:32
Hi,

I'm new to Corona and this is probably a dumb question.......... but

I an saving out 8bit jpgs for a test animation. How do i stop the alpha channel being saved without the tone mapping effecting it's tone?

Thanks

My idea would be to render out the scene to CXR and then batch files. Save with and without tonemaping.

Thanks Tanakov,..............but is this really the normal outcome and workflow?

I'm going to have a bunch of Material and object Masks that are being effected too.

I'm not sure I understand the question - if you are adding render elements in 3ds Max, such as masks and the alpha channel, those are not affected by tone mapping, which is just what is needed. Are you finding that they are affected by tone mapping when you save? If so, can you share your workflow and scene set up? Also, let us know which version of Corona you are using etc. :)

Thanks!

I've found elements that should not be affected by tonemapping, such as alpha and CMaskingID to be affected by tonemapping ONLY in the CoronaImage Editor. In the Max editor it looks fine, either straight from render or when loading a .CXR in. The Image Ediotr however, does not.

Hi, this is a known limitation of the CIE. We have a feature request for it and we would like to solve it in the future. Until then CIE 1.7 will be able to at least display single-channel render elements and the alpha channel without applying tone mapping.

Hi, CIE in next Corona v2 daily build will correctly limit tone mapping (and gamma) only to those render elements that are expected to be tone mapped, as it is in Corona VFB.
