Chaos Corona for 3ds Max => [Max] I need help! => Topic started by: Ironman2015 on 2017-08-18, 16:36:31

I'm trying to achieve the same lighting effect as the spot lights that are in this scene. I did this scene in Corona, but had to do the spot lights volume in Photoshop. Is there a way to use the atmosphere volume lighting effects on individual lights using corona? How does one do individual volume lighting in Corona? Thanks!

Hi. If you use Max's standard spotlight you can use the Volume Light effect that comes with Max.
Hope it helps

Yes that's true. But you can't take advantage of having that light source nonphysical properties available like Corona's lights. You also lose the abilities of the post bloom and glare features on those standard max lights.

My work-around for this effect is to have a standard 3ds max light in the same location as my corona light. I've set the standard light multiplier very low with no shadows and the volume effect filter attached to it. I then still have the Corona light features in post. Hope this light effect feature is on the Corona road map for future use.

You can use corona lights with a like 0.9 directionality setting applied to them. Couple that with a corona volume material in the global volume material slot in the scene environment section you can achieve the look you want. Remember to turn on single bounce for your volume material otherwise it will take a long time to render. Here is an example i whipped up quickly based on your precedent image

Awesome! Thanks!!
